DSEF aims to create a better community, a safer city,
and adequate opportunities for the youth of New Orleans

Extravaganza 2017 Flyer

Each year the Dinerral Shavers Educational Fund (DSEF) and Tulane University’s Staff Advisory Council, team up to host its annual Back to School Extravaganza. This event is a free school supply giveaway targeted towards all New Orleans students, and includes food, music, entertainment, blood pressure screenings, cholesterol screenings, child health screenings, and more.

At the beginning of each New Year, New Orleans’ Cultural Community comes together to pay homage to the late Dinerral Shavers in an all-night exclusive musical event.

Thank You Hot 8 Brass Band, Baby Boyz Brass Band, Free Agents Brass Band, Brass-A-Holics Brass Band, Stooges Brass Band, TBC Brass Band, Pinettes Brass Band, Soul Rebels Brass Band, We Are One Brass Band, Kinfolks Brass Band, Wild Wayne and DJ Slab 1 of Q93, and DJ Captain Charles for their unwavering support and dedication.Without them, there would be no us!

The Dinerral Shavers Educational Fund has plans to reimplement its College Tours Initiative.
This program was originally implemented spring 2008
when DSEF hosted a college tour for the student of L.E. Rabouin High School Marching Band to Florida A&M University.

Students were given a college tour, free band camp, application assistance and a priceless glimpse of the HBCU and college experience. DSEF plans to form relationships with local New Orleans higher learning institutions, state-wide institutions, as well as Florida A&M University, Southern University, and Jackson State University as featured destinations for our program. Participants for this program will be chosen through various outlets. We will target middle and high school students, grades 7th - 12th only.

Girls Initiative for Reproducing Leaders in Society is a girl’s empowerment and mentorship program, based on Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights.

The program will focus on improving adolescent behaviors, developing and identifying youth leaders, fostering parental advocates, and empowering women as core leaders within society. To achieve this, GIRLSNOLA will implement a two track initiative that teaches girls how to become respected, responsible, and fully realized young women in society. While also teaching parents how to bring up these bright and amazing young leaders

New Orleans’ art, music, and unparalleled culture may shine brightly throughout the world, but its descending poverty, ever-widening achievement gap, and upsurge in crime continues to overshadow the city’s progression. The significance of New Orleans culture is like a diamond, with profound historical significance to American history.

However, due to lack of education and translation, these traditions have not been properly communicated and passed down throughout generations to the youth of New Orleans. In that way, many citizens may celebrate this culture without quite knowing why.

DSEF has created this program to combat that lack of knowledge. Utilizing proven artistic teaching tools, DSEF will teach New Orleans youth a valued appreciation for their culture, developing positive creative and innovative individuals eager to embrace society through an interactive, hands-on ride through News Orleans' remarkable history.

Each year, DSEF partners with businesses across the New Orleans Metropolitan Area to serve as drop-off locations for food and clothing as we encourage the community to support those in need.

Here at DSEF, we understand that it takes everything to be selfish, yet it takes absolutely nothing to spread LOVE. In that, our goal is to spread happiness across the city of New Orleans as often as we can.
